What is the difference between using FTP or SMB and other file sharing protocols?
In the case of SMB, AFP, NFS and other file sharing protocols Baton reads the file directly from the content location. The data is read directly into the RAM of the machine.
In the case of FTP, Baton downloads the file onto the local disk of the Checker. Once a specified amount of data has been downloaded, Baton begins the analysis of the file. This feature allows Baton to start the verification, without waiting for the entire file to be downloaded. (This feature is not available for Quicktime wrapper). After the verification is done the file is deleted from the local disk automatically. This way Baton can reduce the impact of unreliable network connection.
